Description
Final Fantasy XIV is a popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Square Enix. Directed and produced by Naoki Yoshida, it was initially released in August 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Windows, later expanding to other platforms like PlayStation 4, OS X, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is set in the fantasy realm of Eorzea, recovering from the aftermath of a catastrophic event known as the Seventh Umbral Calamity, caused by the escape of the elder primal Bahamut from an ancient space station called Dalamud. Players take on the role of a character who survived the Calamity, and their mission is to protect Eorzea from an impending invasion by the Garlean Empire. The original version of Final Fantasy XIV faced critical and commercial failure, prompting Square Enix to appoint Yoshida and his team to revamp the game. They not only improved the original version but also secretly worked on a new replacement, codenamed "Version 2.0," with updated graphics, gameplay, and story. The original version was shut down in 2012, leading to the successful launch of A Realm Reborn.
