Moonshot Games' latest release, Wildgate, is a game that aims to blend frenetic action with a stylized sci-fi. The game is marketed as a fast-paced PvP affair, but also promises PvE depth that, regrettably, is not delivered. Our editorial team thoroughly tested the game on PC and PlayStation 5, utilizing full crossplay support, and the technical execution of cross-platform play was seamless.

The visual style is among the most robust aspects of Wildgate. Worlds are vivid and textured, and incredible lighting effects bring arenas and landscapes to life. Character models are decent, and animations, while not impressive, enhance the game's visual style. Presentation-oriented players will find that Wildgate offers a rich and elegant visual experience.

Gameplay in Wildgate is smooth and engaging. Combat feels responsive and moves well, with great tension maintained at all times. The game's PvP-focused design, however, limits it to being less diverse. At its core, Wildgate appears to want to be more of a PvE experience — exploring the world, overcoming AI obstacles, and bringing players together in cooperative experiences. Instead, it limits itself to competitive gameplay modes, which may deter players who yearn for more variety.

However, the core mechanics are fun, and combat has enough depth to attract dedicated PvP fans. Balance issues aside, there is room for demonstrating skill and strategic team play.

Crossplay is a big win for Wildgate. Our team tested multiplayer sessions across PC and PS5, and the experience was seamless - no noticeable lag, matchmaking delays, or connectivity issues. For a title that relies on keeping a player base unified, full cross-platform support is essential, and Wildgate executes it well.

At launch, the content is somewhat shallow. PvP modes and maps are present, but the lack of more mature PvE systems takes away from long-term replay value. If Moonshot Games were to devote more development to co-op experiences, Wildgate would be much more unique in an otherwise crowded multiplayer market.

Wildgate is a good-looking and mechanically excellent game, although one that fails to reach its full potential. The heavy PvP emphasis prevents the game from being much more iconic as an experience based on PvE. Despite that, with solid crossplay implementation, fluid combat, and a strong foundation, the game could grow with patches if the creators choose to expand its scope.
A great but unfinished experience — good looks and crossplay support drive the game, but its half-baked PvE portion sets the stage for future development.
